Apple bekommt das Patent auf das “Slide to Unlock”-Feature

Ein Patent ist dazu da um Erfindungen zu schützen, so dass andere diese nicht kopieren oder willkürlich für eigene Produkte nutzen können. Oft ist dabei allerdings fraglich, ob die jeweilige Technologie tatsächlich die Schutzrechte eines Patents genießen sollte. Wenn es um Patente geht, dann ist Apple ganz vorne mit dabei. Das haben wir nicht zu letzt am Konflikt zwischen Samsung und dem Konzern mit dem angebissenen Apfel live miterleben drüfen, der bald in die nächste Runde gehen dürfte.

Ungeachtet dessen strebt Apple nach neuen Patenten und hat nun vom United States Patent & Trademark Office das Patent mit der Nummer 7657849 zugesprochen bekommen: “Unlocking a device by performing gestures on an unlock image”. Dahinter verbirgt sich nichts anderes als das “Slide to Unlock”-Feature, das inzwischen so gut wie jedes mobile OS zum Entsperren des Lockscreens verwendet. Im Klartext bedeutet das: jeder der diesen Mechanismus künftig verwenden möchte, muss dafür Geld an Apple bezahlen – oder mit einer Klage rechnen. In der Tat war es Steve Jobs, der im Jahr 2007 das “Slide to Unlock”-Feature zusammen mit dem ersten iPhone vorgestellt hat. Das Patent im Detail:

“A device with a touch-sensitive display may be unlocked via gestures performed on the touch-sensitive display. The device is unlocked if contact with the display corresponds to a predefined gesture for unlocking the device. The device displays one or more unlock images with respect to which the predefined gesture is to be performed in order to unlock the device. The performance of the predefined gesture with respect to the unlock image may include moving the unlock image to a predefined location and/or moving the unlock image along a predefined path. The device may also display visual cues of the predefined gesture on the touch screen to remind a user of the gesture.”
